Sapphire

Sapphire has been connected to romance and aristocracy for ages. Kings and queens in classical Greece and Rome believed that blue sapphires shielded their wearers from danger and jealousy. In the Middle Ages, blue sapphires were worn by the clergy as a representation of Heaven, while common people believed that the stone brought divine benefits. In other eras and locations, sapphires were endowed with abilities to protect virginity, mediate conflict between rivals, sway spirits, and divulge the meanings of oracles.
