Due to their frequent associations with knowledge and intellect, societies have long been fascinated and in awe of owls. There aren't many other species that are the subject of so many varying and conflicting opinions. Owls have been connected to witchcraft and medicine, the weather, birth, and death. They have also been feared and revered, hated and adored, intelligent and foolish. Early folklore from a time too far in the past to date, but which has been passed down orally through generations, contains speculation about owls.
